You can purchase Picta Dicta for your school by inquiring at info@pictadicta.com. Tell us a little about what you are looking for including grade levels and past experience with Latin.
Before we send a specific proposal, we set up a zoom meeting for you and Tim Griffith, who is an experienced Latinist and teacher. You can share your school’s goals, class pacing, and teacher skill level and teaching preferences: he demos anything you want to see and recommends products and a progression that would fit your program best. He is familiar with other K-12 Latin curricula, so he can also recommend how to use our materials to integrate with theirs.
After the meeting, we can set up a pricing table for you that will allow you to price out exact numbers for the options you want and grades you are looking at. If you like it, you order by accepting that proposal.
We recommend that schools buy a couple extra workbooks if their enrollment numbers aren’t solid, as they are easy to use the next year. But, you should buy exactly the number of seats you need; if you need a few extras, we can fulfill digital seats within 1 business day!
The base cost of Picta Dicta per students is a license fee to use the curriculum in the classroom. Although we grant schools individual online access for any students in a classroom licensed for LP, that is a value-added—not something we charge separately for. We price it by student so that the curriculum cost scales with tuition.
Yes, it does. Picta Dicta's materials are accessed through its app, which means it needs to have a connection to its server to operate properly. However, the data being downloaded is not very large, so the connection does not need to be high speed.
Yes, you can! It’s not necessary for each student to have access to a device. Picta Dicta materials are usually displayed in a classroom on a projector or large screen. The exercises are designed as props to give a teacher structure and visuals while teaching. Meanwhile, students call answers out loud, or write them on personal whiteboards, rather than entering them through a digital device.
We will add digital licenses to your existing account, or make a new account for you on app.pictadicta.com. Then we’ll add your subscriptions and set up the main account. If you choose to give your students direct access, you will need to set up profiles for them; you can learn how to do this in this video. (link)
The Picta Dicta app has two “levels” for accounts, master accounts and learner accounts. Teachers have access to the school’s main account, where they can check student progress and run the app in the classroom. Additionally, teachers typically have personal learner accounts where they can go through the material as they are prepping. Watch this video to see how to set this up in the app: [link]
Picta Dicta is designed to make teaching Latin easier, no matter how experienced the teacher is. Teachers who are new to Latin can teach Latin Primer 1 by going through the course as a student first, so they can see all the grammar videos and exercises before class time. We also offer comprehensive teachers guides with grammar and vocabulary explanations, suggested teaching strategies, and much more! For students learning Latin Grammar 3 or higher, we would recommend that teachers complete it on their own first at the least.
Yes! Schools may choose to purchase a physical Quiz Pack, or they can pick a free PDF version (recommended.) There are over 100 quizzes for each Latin Primer and for Latin Grammar 3. Answer keys for Latin Primer are in the back of the Teacher Guide, and Latin Grammar 3 has a separate answer key.
We do not sell physical flashcards. How come? There are over 2000 illustrated examples in Latin Primer 1 & 2 and over 3000 in Latin Grammar 3. The sheer volume of items would make physical cards prohibitively expensive and impractical to manage. The app not only displays the examples, but arranges them in various ways to teach particular concepts or review through intentional organization. For students who use the app individually, the app pronounces Latin and requires them to understand by hearing as well. It also keeps track of their progress and shows their teacher where they are having trouble. Physical flashcards simply cannot do these things.
The lower-level readers (Puer et Monstrum, Fabellae Simplices, Mustelae Piratae) come with vocabulary for the first year. After that, if you are still using another Picta Dicta Product, like the Latin Primers, you can continue using the vocabulary courses for free. If not, you'll need to pay for the licenses separately. For higher level readers, vocabulary courses are separate from the readers.
Vocabulary courses for Marcus Mirandus and Marcus Captus are in the works!
We are developing Latin Grammar 4 & 5 that cover the remainder of basic Latin grammar. We also recommend Hans Orberg’s Lingua Latina Per Se Illustrata for high school students who have completed Latin Grammar 3. Latin Grammar 3 covers roughly the same grammar as the first 18 chapters of Lingua Latina, and much of the vocabulary as well. So, the first 18 chapters could be covered quickly, as much of it would be review.

The Picta Dicta learning platform is a web application and requires a web browser. Parents are, of course, absolutely right to be concerned about giving a child access to the internet. So, we STRONGLY recommend using web restriction to only allow certain websites. By allowing http://app.pictadicta.com in their settings, parents can ensure that their child cannot access anything other than what they have allowed.
Users of iOS and Android tablets may also download Picta Dicta to their homescreen. This allows a child to access the app without having to go through a browser directly. However, an internet connection is still required.
Yes. Our Latin Primer Series introduces elementary-age students to the most foundational grammar concepts in Latin, and our Latin Grammar Series teaches secondary-age students the vast majority of the Latin grammar system and how to read grammatically.
Picta Dicta courses have a gradual progression, intuitive exercises with illustrations, simple video explanations, and options to search forgotten words, so students do not need a lot of external help. However, parental involvement makes our courses even better. For students in the Latin Primer Series, our Homeschool Guides help parents keep their children on track. For students in the Latin Grammar Series, the Latin Grammar Companions provide answer keys and additional explanatory notes.
For students who need more support than their parents can provide, we strongly recommend the Ancient Language Institute for excellent online courses and tutorials for students of all ages.

Even though Picta Dicta employs a lot of technology, its exercises are built on sound and historicalic principles of Latin education. Picta Dicta courses are well suited for students learning on the "Trivium" model advocated by Sayers and others. However, students learning on another model will not find them any less useful!
Younger elementary students (K - 2nd) should take Natural World. Older elementary students (3rd - 6th) should take Latin Primer Series. Secondary-level students should use our Latin Grammar Series. If a family wants to have several children of different ages to learn together, the Latin Primer Series is a good choice.
Yes, the Picta Dicta app must have a connection to its server to work properly. However, the data being downloaded is not very large, so an unlimited data plan is not essential.
